Tokyo stocks opened marginally higher Tuesday as a comparatively weak yen versus the U.S. dollar encouraged investors to snap up exporter issues.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 24.16 points, or 0.12 percent, from Monday to 20,743.49.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 2.32 points, or 0.15 percent, at 1,568.69.
Electric power and gas, marine transportation, and warehousing and harbor transportation service-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
