TOKYO, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar gave exporter issues a boost, with investors also buying back issues after recent declines.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 118.16 points, or 0.55 percent, from Monday to 21,652.51. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.89 points, or 0.44 percent, at 1,585.29.

Oil and coal product, securities house, and farm and fishery-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
