U.S.-listed Chinese firms trade mostly higher

NEW YORK, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher on Thursday with nine of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

Shares of TAL Education Group and Ctrip.com International gained 7.95 percent and 2.87 percent, respectively, leading the gainers in the top 10 stocks of the index.

Shares of ZTO Express declined 0.24 percent, the only laggard in the top 10.

U.S. stocks closed higher on Thursday as weak economic data increased investors' expectations on further rate cuts.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 122.42 points, or 0.47 percent, to 26,201.04. The S&P 500 rose 23.02 points, or 0.80 percent, to 2,910.63. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 87.02 points, or 1.12 percent, to 7,872.27.

As of Wednesday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 2,701.40, marking a 0.98-percent decrease for the month-to-date returns and a 17.90-percent gain for the year-to-date returns.
