TOKYO, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday with the benchmark Nikkei stock index ending at its highest level in more than five months, while construction-linked issues gained following a powerful typhoon ripping through Japan over the weekend.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 24.93 points, or 1.56 percent, higher to finish at 1,620.20.
