Tokyo stocks open sharply higher

TOKYO, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Friday.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average surged 215.40 points, or 0.92 percent, from Thursday to 23,545.72.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 11.78 points, or 0.69 percent, at 1,709.91.

Mining, transportation equipment and bank-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
