U.S.-listed Chinese firms trade mostly lower

NEW YORK, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly lower on Friday with seven of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on a downbeat note.

Shares of Baidu and Yum China Holdings rose 2.21 percent and 0.76 percent, respectively, leading the gainers in the top 10 stocks of the index.

Shares of New Oriental Education & Technology Group and Trip.com Group fell 2.59 percent and 2.18 percent, respectively, leading the losers in the top 10 stocks of the index.

U.S. stocks closed higher on Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 6.44 points, or 0.02 percent, to 27,681.24. The S&P 500 was up 7.90 points, or 0.26 percent, to 3,093.08. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 40.80 points, or 0.48 percent, to 8,475.31.

The Cboe Volatility Index, widely considered the best fear gauge in the stock market, decreased 5.18 percent to 12.07 on Friday.

As of Thursday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 3,073.04, marking a 6.16-percent increase for the month-to-date returns and a 34.12-percent gain for the year-to-date returns.
