BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.3 percent at 2,915.7 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.17 percent lower at 9,836.23 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 448.86 billion yuan (about 63.89 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 466.58 billion yuan in the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered winners by 978 to 424 on the Shanghai bourse and by 1,343 to 737 on the Shenzhen bourse.
Shares of companies in the electronics sector posted strong performance, with shares of Guangdong Goworld Co. Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent.
Meanwhile, companies in information communication and cultural industries led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.16 percent to close at 1,720.99 points Thursday.
