BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended mixed Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.28 percent, at 3,031.23 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.23 percent higher at 11,772.38 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.22 trillion yuan (about 174 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 1.17 trillion yuan the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered gainers 772 to 682 on the Shanghai bourse while 1,394 stocks rallied to 743 losers in Shenzhen.
Stocks in the electronics sector led the gains, with shares of the Shenzhen-based headphones maker Edifier Technology Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to 24.62 yuan.
Computer service providers also notched solid gains, as shares of the software developer China National Software & Service Company Limited hiking by the daily limit to 93.78 yuan apiece.
Meanwhile, shares in the aviation sector led the losses, with the Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines Corporation Limited edging down 3.39 percent to 4.85 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.68 percent to close at 2,263.97 points.
