TOKYO, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply lower Friday, tracking record losses on Wall Street overnight.
As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 682.56 points, or 3.11 percent, from Thursday to 21,265.67.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 47.09 points, or 3.00 percent, at 1,520.97.
All industry categories retreated into negative territory, with information and communication, real estate and securities house issues comprising those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
