Hong Kong stocks slumped sharply on Monday morning as global financial markets were still suffering from the COVID-19 outbreak and the fear over the pandemic was growing.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index lost 1145.52 points, or 5.02 percent, to open at 21,659.55 points on Monday, and kept drifting lower. The stocks fell by 4.21 percent to 21844.30 points at around 9:50 a.m. local time.
