Chinese shares close lower Friday

BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.06 percent to end at 2,808.53 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.33 percent lower at 10,423.46 points.

The combined turnover of stocks on the two indices stood at 625.22 billion yuan (about 88.3 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 670.56 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers heavily outnumbered gainers by 1,182 to 279 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,794 to 380 in Shenzhen.

Stocks related to military and beer industry registered strong performance, with shares of Anhui GreatWall Military Industry Co., Ltd. seeing its share price rise by the daily 10-percent limit to 11.84 yuan per share.

Companies in the industries of agricultural cultivation and digital cash led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.27 percent to close at 2,003.75 points.
