BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.24 percent, at 2,875.42 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.4 percent lower at 10,921.15 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 731.8 billion yuan (about 103.03 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 626.94 billion yuan seen in the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered gainers 754 to 675 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,347 to 789 in Shenzhen.
Shares related to agriculture and gold performed strongly, with Tianshui Zhongxing Bio-technology Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to end at 9.1 yuan per share.
Companies in the sectors of voice technology and consumer electronics led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.44 percent to close at 2,114.86 points Monday.
