The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.07 percent higher at 13,970.68 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 826.35 billion yuan (about 125.98 billion U.S. dollars), down from 881 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Investors saw a slight pullback in coal and cement shares, while medical equipment, food and liquor-making stocks rose across the board.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.1 percent to close at 2,712.52 points Thursday.
