TOKYO, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday as investors opted to secure gains following the market's recent rise, with concerns over a long-awaited U.S. stimulus package adding to a risk-off mood.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 61.70 points, or 0.23 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 26,756.24.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, ended 3.21 points, or 0.18 percent, lower at 1,776.21.

Marine transportation, metal product and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
