Tokyo stocks rise in morning as market mood lifted by U.S. stimulus

TOKYO, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rose Monday morning as U.S. President Donald Trump signing a COVID-19-related economic stimulus package lifted the market mood.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 114.42 points, or 0.43 percent, from Friday to 26,771.03.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.59 points, or 0.37 percent, at 1,785.00.

Pulp and paper, electric and gas, and land transportation issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
