Singapore stocks close 1.22 pct higher

SINGAPORE, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 1.22 percent, or 37.37 points, to close at 3,108.53.

A total of 2.49 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 2.32 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.72 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 278 to 209.

The STI index went up 1.9 percent, or 57.31 points, to close at 3,071.16 on Monday.
