German shares almost unchanged at start of trading on Friday

BERLIN, April 16 (Xinhua) -- German stocks were almost unchanged at the start of trading on Friday, with the benchmark DAX index growing by 22.52 points, or 0.15 percent, opening at 15,277.85 points.

The biggest winner among Germany's 30 largest listed companies at the start of trading was housing company Deutsche Wohnen, increasing by 2.20 percent, followed by carmaker Daimler with 2.04 percent and building materials company HeidelbergCement with 2.03 percent.

On Friday, Daimler announced that first quarter 2021 results were "significantly above market expectations," as preliminary earnings before interest and taxes reached 5.7 billion euros (about 6.8 billion U.S. dollars), driven by "favorable sales momentum" particularly in China.

Shares of Adidas fell by 1.08 percent. The sportswear manufacturer was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Friday.

The yield on German ten-year bonds went up 0.029 percentage points to minus 0.263 percent and the euro was trading almost unchanged at 1.1972 U.S. dollars, increasing by 0.01 percent on Friday morning.
