The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.32 percent higher at 13,455.73 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices came in at 949.12 billion yuan (150.18 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.02 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to oil and gas exploitation and digital currencies led the gains, while those related to real estate and education led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.89 percent to close at 2,881.31 points.
