The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.49 percent lower at 12,318.78 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices came in at over 962.8 billion yuan (about 151.23 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.02 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to real estate, coal, oil and gas posted stellar performances, while shares related to COVID-19 treatment led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.39 percent to close at 2,688.23 points.
