The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.1 percent higher at 12,263.8 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices came in at 958.4 billion yuan (about 150.8 billion U.S. dollars), up from 864 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 4.02 percent to close at 2,696.83 points Wednesday.
