Five ministries jointly issued a document recently to require local governments to weed out old vehicles and heavy-polluting vehicles, also called as yellow label cars, in operation, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection on Wednesday.
According to the Notification on Roundly Advancing Yellow-Label Car Elimination Work, local government will urge enterprises to eliminate the yellow-label cars in operation that were registered before the end of 2005.
Meanwhile, local governments are required to check automobiles that meet the mandatory write-off standard intensively, and investigate and punish the illegal activities of driving scrapped car on road. By the end of September, China has eliminated 823,600 yellow-label cars that were registered before the end of 2005, accounting for 70.73 percent of the annual target.
