The Chinese central government has decided provincial governors should take the chief responsibility for food security of their respective province, the official website of the Chinese government released on Thursday.

More than 10 central government departments will form a work group to assess the performance annually in terms of strengthening sustainability of food production, protecting grain-growing enthusiasm, enhancing local grain reserve ability, guaranteeing grain supply, ensuring food quality and implementing protection measures.
