China officially opened a consulate office on Tuesday evening in Malaysia's state of Penang, with its consular district covering four states of Perlis, Perak, Kedah and Penang in northern part of Malaysia.
Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Huang Huikang, who announced the opening on behalf of the Chinese government, said the launch of the Consulate General of China in Penang is a testimony of the rapid development of relationship between China and Malaysia, adding that it will provide fresh opportunities and impetus to the cooperation between the two countries.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Ganeson Sivagurunathan, undersecretary of East Asia Division of Malaysian Foreign Ministry, extended their warm welcome and congratulation on the opening of the Chinese consulate.
They spoke highly of the good relations between China and Malaysia, and hoped that the consulate could strengthen the cooperation between China and its consular district in various areas such as trade, culture, education, tourism and so on.
China's Consul-General in Penang Wu Jun said the consulate will be committed to boosting mutual understanding and cooperation between China and its consular district in Malaysia.
