Since China's State Council issued air pollution prevention and control act in 2013, the central government has increased its special fund earmarked for air pollution and control year by year, according to Wang Jian, deputy director of the pollution prevention and control department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection on Thursday.

"The central government has allocated 5 billion yuan, 9.8 billion yuan and 10.6 billion yuan worth of special fund in 2013, 2014 and 2015 respectively and granted 5 billion yuan in advance for 2016 to prevent and control air pollution," said Wang Jian.

Wang introduced that three aspects of major work needed to be done in 2016 in this regard, including enhancing liabilities of local governments, further optimizing coordination mechanism and better coping with severe pollution.
