India Wednesday successfully launched its home-made communications satellite GSAT-15 from Kourou in French Guyana, a space official said.
"The state-owned Indian Space Research Organisation launched the over 3,000 kg satellite using one of the world's largest rockets, the Ariane-5," the official said, on condition of anonymity.
The satellite carried with it some 24 transponders that will help in direct-to-home broadcasting, the official said. "It also carried a GPS-assisted geo-augmented navigation payload operating in L1 and L5 bands, which will help in aircraft navigation," he added.
