Tokyo stocks advanced in early trading Tuesday as investor sentiment was buoyed by rising markets in the U.S. overnight, in a sign that the recent risk-off mood in the wake of the Paris terror attacks is subsiding.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 241. 16 points, or 1.24 percent, from Monday to 19,634.85, while the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange added 17.11 points, or 1.09 percent, at 1,588.64. Early advancers comprised iron and steel, as well as mining and machinery-related issues.
