Tokyo stocks rise after Wall St.'s rally in early trading

Tokyo stocks advanced Thursday morning in early trading as Wall Street's rise overnight lifted the market mood here.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 160. 45 points, or 0.85 percent, from Tuesday to 19,047.15. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 10.73 points, or 0.70 percent, to 1, 544.33. Markets here were closed Wednesday for a national holiday. Early gainers comprised agriculture and fisheries, mining and oil and coal-related issues.
