Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) corn, wheat and soybeans all settled lower Monday, extending losses to open the last of weak of year 2015.
The most active corn contract for March delivery fell 3.5 cents, or 0.96 percent, to settle at 3.61 U.S. dollars per bushel. March wheat delivery was lower 1 cent, or 0.21 percent, to close at 4. 665 dollars per bushel. March soybeans shed 11.75 cents, or 1.35 percent, to close at 8.6125 dollars per bushel.
CBOT floor brokers estimated that funds sold 7,000 contracts of corn Monday, according to Agresource. Wheat also settled lower on forecast as snow in the U.S. Midwest and South Plains was expected to help winter wheat there.
Some analysts said that energy markets also dragged CBOT agriculture commodities lower. Oil prices declined Monday as market worried that global supplies exceed demand.
