The World Bank will extend 100 million U.S. dollars interest-free loan to Jordan to help support Syrian refugees and local communities, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said Sunday.

Speaking at a press conference in Amman, Kim said the loan will be paid back over a period of 40 years and Jordan will not pay any interest rates on it.

Jordan's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury said is in talks with the World Bank to receive another soft loan worth 250 million U.S. dollars.

At the press conference, Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Judeh stressed the need for the international community's continued support to help face the challenges imposed by the influx of a large number of Syrian refugees.

He also reviewed challenges Jordan is facing in various sectors, especially since the country is home to some 1.3 million Syrian refugees.
