Japan's reserve assets edge down in May

Japan's official reserve assets in May declined about 0.68 percent from the previous month, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Ministry of Finance.

Reserve assets in Japan totaled 1,253.967 billion U.S. dollars as of May 31, down 8.542 billion U.S. dollars from the end of April.

Foreign currency reserves totaled 1,193.989 billion U.S. dollars at the end of May. The reserve position in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was 12.267 billion U.S. dollars in the month. The Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) stood at 17.377 billion U.S. dollars in May, while the value of gold reserves came in at 29.821 billion U.S. dollars. Other foreign currency assets stood at 59.234 billion U.S. dollars by the end of May, including loans to The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) in total of 59.131 billion U.S. dollars.
