German companies still plan to recruit new employees in June, although the sentiment edged down a little bit compared to May, the Ifo research institute reported on Monday.
According to the report, the Ifo employment barometer index fell slightly to 108.0 points in June from 108.3 points in May. The barometer indexes in manufacturing, construction, wholesaling and retailing all rose, except that the index in the service sector dropped by two index points, the Munich-based think tank said.
"The employment dynamic nevertheless remains expansively oriented," the report noted. Ifo is one of Europe's leading research institutes. Its business climate index is considered among the most important barometers for German economy.
