British Home Secretary Theresa May was confirmed as the new leader of the Conservative Party "with immediate effect," the chairman of the Conservative 1922 committee Graham Brady announced Monday.
Brady, who heads the 1922 committee that oversaw the leadership campaign, confirmed that May, the only remaining candidate in the Tory leadership battle, is now the new leader of the party "with immediate effect."
May will formally become the new prime minister after the current Prime Minister David Cameron offers his resignation to Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.
