Spain's consumer prices fall by 0.8 pct in June

Spain's consumer prices fell by 0.8 percent in June when compared with the same month of a year earlier, according to data of the Consumer Price Index confirmed on Wednesday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE). The figure was 0.2 percent higher than that of May, when consumer prices had fallen by 1 percent. Spain's inflation rate has been rising for two consecutive months on a year-on-year basis, although Spain's consumer prices have been falling for six months in a row.

Prices of transport fell by 4 percent with prices of fuel and lubricants falling less than in June 2015. Prices of items related to housing fell by 5.5 percent due to increased prices of electricity and prices of items related to leisure and culture fell by 1.6 percent. On the other hand, prices of food and non alcoholic drinks rose by 1.5 percent, those of other goods and services increased by 1.2 percent and those related to the hotel industry rose by 0.9 percent.

The INE also reported that consumer prices increased by 0.5 percent on a month-to-month basis, from May to June, which was the biggest rise for the month since 2008 when prices rose by 0.6 percent.
