The Ukrainian government' s committee on economic, financial and legal policy has prepared a draft decree on the privatization of some 330 state-owned enterprises in 2016-2017, a senior cabinet official announced here on Tuesday.
"We will not retreat from the idea of a large-scale and transparent privatization," Yuliya Kovaliv, First Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister of Ukraine, wrote on her Facebook page.
Kovaliv said that the draft plan, which awaits the final government approval, will enable the privatization of state-controlled enterprises working in agriculture and energy sectors.
In particular, the government is keen to privatize the State Food and Grain Corporation -- a national operator of Ukrainian grain market, and the Turboatom Company -- one of the world's largest producers of turbines for thermal, hydropower and nuclear power plants.
The Ukrainian government launched its major privatization program in a bid to fill the cash-strapped budget and enhance the efficiency of the state enterprises, nearly half of which have halted their work due to the lack of investment. Ukraine targeted to earn 1.34 billion dollars from privatization in 2016-2017.
