Swiss unemployment rate up in August: report

Switzerland's unemployment rate stood at 3.2 percent in August this year, up from 3.1 percent two months ago, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs reported Friday.

With 142,858 people registered as jobless in the confederation, the latest figures show that an additional 3,548 unemployed individuals were recorded last month compared to July figures.

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 years) rose by 20.7 percent, with more than 20,600 young adults looking for a job in August. The number of jobseekers signed up to work in Switzerland increased by 2,642 people from July to August, reaching 201,989 by the end of last month.

The state agency also reported that the number of listed job opportunities in the country rose by 154 in August to reach 10,802.
