Lao National Assembly President Pany Yathotou on Thursday stressed the importance of Chinese-invested Saysettha Development Zone in terms of economic development and politics.
During an inspection tour to the zone in the Lao capital Vientiane, Pany spoke highly of infrastructure construction, investment work and zone management in the past five years.
Saysettha Development Zone is jointly established by Lao and Chinese governments and it has great significance not only in promoting economic development, but also in politics, she said.
While calling for paying attention to environmental protection and sustainable development, Pany said the Lao government will continue formulating more favorable policies and removing obstacles to investment.
As China's only state-level overseas economic and trade cooperation zone in Laos, the Saysettha Development Zone has been included into the early harvest list of China-proposed Belt and Road initiative.
As many as 300 million U.S. dollars have been invested into the zone and infrastructure construction has already been completed in an area of 400 hectares. Some 35 enterprises have signed contracts with investments totalling 350 million U.S. dollars, and the enterprises are operating in the fields of clean energy, agricultural and livestock products processing, and manufacturing, among others.
