The overwhelming majority of Greek citizens want national consensus on the management of the debt relief issue, according to the results of an opinion poll released Tuesday.

The survey, conducted by polling firm ALCO for the Efimerida ton Syntakton daily, finds that 83 percent of the respondents wanted the country's various political parties to have a unified stance regarding the debt settlement issue.

Meanwhile, 86 percent of the polled believed the country's debt load should be reduced in collaboration with international creditors, while only 6 percent saw Greece's debt burden as sustainable after six years of painful austerity and reform measures.

The Greek government hopes to discuss its debt relief issue at the upcoming Euro Group meeting on Dec. 5, but some lenders seem reluctant to address the issue soon.
