The Hong Kong-Australia Business Association (HKABA) NSW Chapter, officially launched their annual Business Awards and Young Professionals Alliance Award for 2017 on Tuesday 9th May, at Hong Kong House.
 
This year marks the 18 th anniversary of the annual Hong Kong Australia Business AssociationNSW Chapter Inc. Business Awards. It is designed to provide recognition and incentive to NSW entrepreneurs and companies who strive for excellence in all aspects of international trade between NSW and Hong Kong SAR. The Business Awards has become a prestigious event within the NSW business community since its inception in 2000.
 
Entrants will be competing in the following four categories: Export of Goods/Services, Import of Goods/Services, Business Development, and Business Excellence. The judging panel is chaired by Ms. Bonnie Shek, together with representatives from Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, Sydney, Government of the HKSAR and the HKABA NSW Chapter Inc. Platinum Sponsors.
 
Mr Kevin Cheung, President of the HKABA NSW Chapter gave a welcoming speech acknowledging the VIPs; Ms Bonnie Shek, Director of Australia and NZ, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Winnie Chan, Deputy Director, HKETO, Dr Luca De Leonardis, Head for InvestHK, Australia and NZ ,and Ms Lucinda Chan, Honorary Treasurer, Federation of Hong Kong Australia Business Association Worldwide. Mr Kevin Cheung thanked HKABA’s Platinum Sponsors Dynamic Payment, NAB and Reginsun Group.
 
Mr. Peter Cai, the Chairperson of the Business Awards commented that “This year marks our 18 th year since the Business Awards was initiated and has grown to be one of the biggest business awards in NSW. Our Business Awards is a way of recognizing those hardworking entrepreneurs operating their businesses under difficult times. It also offers a good opportunity for a company to raise their profile in the business community. Our Business Awards appreciates and highly regards those qualities of a business, which are the core aspects of our judging criteria. This year HKABA NSW will also collaborate with Knowledge Lab to produce a successful Business Awards Gala Dinner to be held on 23rd October 2017 at The Star.” Tonight’s gathering is the commencement of this competition and submission entries are now open. Applications will be accepted until 14th August. Mr Peter Cai also thanked the Major Event Sponsors; Hong Kong Trade Development Council, InvestHK, Virgin Australia, and Emperor’s Garden Restaurant. Mr. Alby Lam, Chairperson of Young Professionals Alliance mentioned that “YPA Award is to encourage and recognize the achievements of a young professional who has demonstrated a noteworthy commitment to excellence and innovation in his/her profession and has worked to promoting the profession as a whole”.
 
Bonnie Shek, Director of HKTDC says, “There are increasing business opportunities for NSW companies, especially for Start-ups. To better support the new breed of SMEs/start-ups, HKTDC has established Startup Zone at seven of the international trade fairs offering a great platform to showcase innovation, meet investors and create publicity. Under the Belt & Road Initiative, there are many infrastructure projects in the pipeline. NSW companies with construction and project management expertise can export their service to manage those complex projects and share their know-how.”
