German PPI falls back in May

German producer price index (PPI) for industrial products fell back in May, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported on Tuesday.

According to Destatis, PPI in May rose by 2.8 percent from the same month 2016, down from a year-on-year increase of 3.4 percent in April.

On a month-to-month basis, PPI fell 0.2 percent in May, compared to an increase of 0.4 percent in April and unchanged in March.

In the reported month, energy prices rose 3.0 percent year-on-year. Prices of petroleum products increased by 6.7 percent and prices of electricity up 5.6 percent, whereas prices of natural gas (distribution) decreased by 5.5 percent.

Excluding energy prices, PPI in May climbed 2.7 percent from May 2016 and rose 0.1 percent from April.
