​Jordan, Germany sign deals to aid new projects

Jordan and Germany signed on Monday several aid agreements to support several projects in the Kingdom.

The agreement on financial cooperation for projects of the German Development Bank (KfW) was signed between minister of Jordan's Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, and German Ambassador, Birgitta Siefker-Eberle.

The aid worths 220 million euros(258 million USD), including 139 million euros(163 million USD) in grants, according to a statement by the German embassy.

The funding will be used to carry out various new projects in the fields of water resource management, education, employment opportunities and energy efficiency, the statement said.

Ambassador Siefker-Eberle also announced new commitments of 191.26 million euros(224 million USD) for 2017 to Jordan for new projects in the water sector, vocational training, employment promotion and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The new commitments also include the first German development policy loan in the water sector to Jordan, the ambassador said.
