Vietnam imported over 8.6 million tons of oil and petroleum products worth nearly 4.5 billion U.S. dollars in the first eight months of the year, posting respective year-on-year rises of 9.1 percent and 38.2 percent.
Meanwhile, Vietnam spent 968,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas worth 463 million U.S. dollars, up 19 percent in volume and up 47.4 percent in value, the country's General Statistics Office said on Thursday.
Vietnam will likely to import the petroleum products and diesel oil in the next five months from countries including China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand, according to Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company, which runs Vietnam's biggest oil refinery Dung Quat in central Quang Ngai province.
The company estimated that Vietnam's annual demand for petroleum products will stand at some 6.5 million tons, and for diesel around 8.5 million tons in the 2018-2022 period.
