LONDON, Mar. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to Britain Liu Xiaoming has said that he hoped that the UK will remain open and inclusive, resist disruptions and continue to foster a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for Huawei and other Chinese companies.
The ambassador made the remarks here Wednesday night when delivering a speech at the Chinese for Labor Gala Chinese New Year Banquet 2019 in London's Phoenix Palace Restaurant.
Liu recalled that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, as well as the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-UK diplomatic relationship at the level of charge d'affaire.
He expressed his appreciation and thanks to the Labor Party for its contribution to the development of China-UK relations.
Liu said China and the UK should stay committed to exchanges and mutual learning, so as to gain more support for China-UK friendship.
"We should follow the principles of mutual respect and equality, and view each other's development as opportunities, rather than challenges, still less threats," said the Chinese diplomat. "Moreover, we should enhance exchanges and cooperation between our parties, legislatures, media, youth and women. This will enhance mutual understanding, deepen friendship and cement public support for our bilateral relations."
He said the two countries should also stay committed to peaceful development and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
He noted that in China-UK relations, putting the people first and working for the many is not only the goal but also the foundation.
"In the new year, we stand ready to work with the Labour Party to make new and greater contribution to the steady development of China-UK relations and to deliver more benefits to the peoples of our two countries," said Liu.
