HANOI, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Up to 54,000 enterprises were set up in Vietnam between January and May, the highest five-month number in the last five years, up 3.2 percent year-on-year.
Total registered capital of the new enterprises reached 669.7 trillion Vietnamese dong (29.1 billion U.S. dollars), up 29.6 percent on-year, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Thursday.
Of the new firms, 32.6 percent involved in wholesales and retails, 27.3 percent in construction, 12.7 percent in manufacturing and processing industries, and 8.3 percent in science, technology and consulting services.
In the five-month period, over 19,600 firms, which had temporarily ceased operations due to different difficulties, resumed their activities, posting a surge of 48.1 percent.
Meanwhile, another 6,371 enterprises were dissolved, up 15.1 percent.
In 2018, Vietnam saw 131,275 enterprises established with total registered capital of over 1,478 trillion Vietnamese dong (nearly 64.3 billion U.S. dollars), up 3.5 percent in quantity and 14.1 percent in capital from 2017.
