It was the first time that the GDP figures fell on a quarter-over-quarter basis since the end of 2016.

However, compared to the Q1 of 2018, the country's GDP rose by 0.5 percent, according to Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The accumulated GDP of the last four quarters (from Q2 of 2018 to Q1 of 2019) rose 0.9 percent compared to the previous four-quarter period.
