WASHINGTON, July 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday continued to trash British Ambassador to the United States Kim Darroch over leaked memos, calling him "wacky" and "very stupid."

"The wacky Ambassador that the U.K. foisted upon the United States is not someone we are thrilled with, a very stupid guy," said Trump in a series of morning tweets, after Darroch's negative assessment of the Trump administration was released days ago.

"I don't know the Ambassador but have been told he is a pompous fool," he said in another one.

Trump's latest rebuttal came hours after British Prime Minister Theresa May publicly voiced her support for Darroch, one of Britain's most experienced diplomats who assumed his current post in January 2016.

In his tweets, Trump also targeted outgoing May and her approach to Brexit. "I told @theresa_may how to do that deal, but she went her own foolish way -- was unable to get it done. A disaster!" he said.

Following the leak on Sunday by the Mail, Trump claimed on Monday that the United States "will no longer deal with" Darroch.

Darroch had said Trump's presidency could "crash and burn" and "end in disgrace," according to a cache of secret cables and briefing notes sent back to Britain and seen by the Mail on Sunday.

"We don't really believe this administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept," Darroch wrote in one memo, according to the newspaper.

Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office did not dispute the veracity of the memos, while the British government has launched an inquiry to investigate the leak of sensitive memos, covering a period beginning in 2017.
