NEW YORK, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The United States has seen 7,062 store closures so far this year, far exceeding the number recorded for the same period last year, Coresight Research said in its latest report.

The number was even larger than the full-year number in 2018, according to the company in its weekly U.S. and UK store openings and closures tracker.

Last year, Coresight Research tracked 5,864 store closures. The company estimated that announced U.S. store closures could reach 12,000 by the end of this year, setting a new record.

In the meantime, the tracker showed 3,017 new stores opened in the United States so far this year.

In comparison, UK retailers have announced 394 store closures and 479 store openings year to date, according to the tracker.
