The information was revealed by the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Joao Machatine, in a housing forum in Maputo aiming to expand house access to young citizens.
The minister said currently 38 percent of the people in the country are young and are in rigid need of a proper and decent house to start a family and live with dignity.
"This reality of homelessness is further aggravated by the combination of population growth coupled with the country's high level of vulnerability to the climate change," said Machatine.
"The project also includes matching roads, electricity, lighting, water supply and drainage and other municipal facilities," said the business counsellor of the Chinese embassy to Mozambique Liu Xiaoguang in his speech at the forum.
Liu said China supports experienced, capable and reputable Chinese companies to actively participate in Mozambican government's efforts to strengthen infrastructures and improve people's livelihood.
According to the counsellor, infrastructure and livelihood projects construction are among the key areas of cooperation between China and Mozambique, and the extensive cooperation in the fields of public works, health, and education have yielded fruitful results.
"It is a good attempt of our pragmatic cooperation in the field of public housing, and a new exploration to synergize our development strategies and make joint efforts to improve people's livelihood," said Liu.
The total value of the project for the construction of the houses, which is based on a public-private partnership model, was not revealed.
The 35,000 houses, resilient to climate change, will be divided into 15,000 houses for the south, 10,000 for the central and 10,000 for the north of the country.
The acquisition costs of the houses are estimated between 30,000 and 40,000 U.S. dollars.
