HANOI, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Phones and components led Vietnamese export items between January and September, with value of nearly 38.6 billion U.S. dollars, posting a year-on-year increase of 5.1 percent and accounting for 19.9 percent of Vietnam's total export revenue, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Wednesday.

In September alone, Vietnam raked in 5.2 billion U.S. dollars from selling the products overseas, up 2.3 percent on-year.

The country also spent roughly 10.7 billion U.S. dollars importing phones and their components in the nine-month period, down 2.9 percent.

In 2018, phones and components were Vietnam's biggest foreign currency earner, with turnovers of more than 50 billion U.S. dollars, increasing 10.5 percent and accounting for over 20 percent of its total export revenue, said the office.
