NSW CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF SISTER STATE RELATIONSHIP WITH GUANGDONG

SYDNEY, Oct. 28 (Xinhua Finance, by Mabel Hu) -- Premier Gladys Berejiklian has welcomed 135 delegates from Guangdong, who are in Sydney for the 27th Biennial Joint Economic Meeting, and for the 40th anniversary of the Chinese Province’s relationship with NSW.
 
Ms Berejiklian and His Excellency Mr Zhang Hu, Vice Governor, People’s Government of Guangdong Province, today signed a joint statement to further progress bilateral opportunities.
 
Speaking to business and political leaders from both nations at a State Luncheon, Ms Berejiklian highlighted the importance of the partnership that had fostered cultural, trade and investment ties between the two states.
 
“This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Sister State relationship, which was the first of its kind to be signed between an Australian State and Chinese province,” Ms Berejiklian said.
 
“Our friendship with Guangdong is one of our most important international relationships, and we value it very highly.”
 
This year’s Joint Economic Meeting (JEM) has four themes: Financial Services and Technology; Health, Medical and Life Sciences Technology; Innovation in Agriculture; and Smart Cities.
 
“JEM is a unique opportunity for NSW to solidify our relationship with Guangdong and nurture new and productive partnerships in emerging industries,” Ms Berejiklian said.
 
“Our partnership has evolved rapidly over the past 40 years through education, trade and migration and we look forward to this continuing into the future.”
 
NSW is the number one destination for Chinese investment in Australia, with education and tourism remaining the key sectors.（END）
