Vietnam's phone export up 5 pct in 10 months

HANOI, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam earned 43.5 billion U.S. dollars from exporting phones and components in the first 10 months of this year, posting a year-on-year increase of 5 percent and accounting for 20 percent of Vietnam's total export revenue in the period, the General Statistics Office said on Monday.

In October alone, Vietnam fetched 4.7 billion U.S. dollars from selling the products overseas, down 0.9 percent against October 2018.

Between January and October, Vietnam spent over 12.2 billion U.S. dollars importing phones and their components, seeing a year-on-year drop of 3.5 percent.

In 2018, phones and their components earned the country more than 50 billion U.S. dollars, up 10.5 percent from 2017, according to the office.
